Mike you are very correct for the YT breed, there is perhaps a PRA genetic test available, how-ever you would still need to do eye screening for cataracts and other genetic eye disorders.

The big three for the YT breed is Liver Shunt and or MVD, Luxating Patella, and there is a toss up for the third one, cataracts, PRA, Leggs Perthes, allergies, and on it goes. There are approximately 21 or more genetic diseases associated with YT, the prevalence rate for many are unknown. And for almost all no genetic test available

Hyperuricosuria genetic test is only available to the Black Russian Terrier breed and a few other breeds, none of which are in place for the YT. It is unknown the incidence rate of this genetic disease in YT's, how-ever bladder stones are far from rare in the YT. They in the YT might be secondary to liver issues (most probable), or other systemic disorders. How-ever breeders do not do the genetic test..... This test is available to all breeds, as far as I know.

There is for the YT a genetic test for CDA - Color dilution alopecia, or if you will blue born puppies. Also some for coat color. There is a thread on here which explains in great detail CDA, and others for the coat color.

My posting was more in line with buyer beware, ask for genetic screening if it is available. Now understand I am a breeder of BRT's, not your average pet owner.

Keep alert Mike, hopefully soon for the Yorkie a genetic test will come out for LS or MVD. If it is found, some posters on here who are alert to and concerned with the health of Yorkies, will post the news.
