I don't expect to ever own another AKC registered dog, I don't rule it out either. I am intermittently searching for a companion for our elderly yorkie. One hope is to give him sort of a play mate and other various reasons.
If indeed, biewers are not registerable at AKC, then where do they register? A national breed club... AKC provides a link to:

Biewer Terrier Registry offers this explanation: "The Biewer Terrier is a purebred of its own and not a Yorkshire Terrier. The BTRA is the only registry set up for the Biewer Terrier breed and feel it is important for the foundation we are developing in America to reflect the correct name for recognition as a breed of its own."
So, in summary, if someone breeds or shows a biewer... I would think A. register with Biewer Terrier Registry, B. record at AKC FSS, C. Lose the yorkie "title", "The Biewer Terrier is a breed of it's own." Embrace it and be proud of it! It's a gorgeous dog!
