There is definitely something creepy about basements. The house I grew up in had a basement with a cellar. It was so so creepy and I am certain it was haunted. My parents do a lot of canning and kept food in there and every time mom asked me to go get something from there, I would grab it and run and always felt like something was chasing me out of there. LOL
Rethinking the phobia thing, I think my all time worst fear is public speaking or speaking in front of groups. I absolutely fear it so so much and according to the definition, will absolutely avoid it if I can.
