BorderKelpie's post.

Here is another article: https://positively.com/dog-behavior/...urce-guarding/

Don't use the kennel as punishment. The kennel is the dog's safe place and should not be associated with punishment.

I agree with Victoria Stilwell:
Quote:
Should I Punish My Dog for Guarding Resources?
Because people often misunderstand why their dogs guard and why there is social competition, many owners of resource guarders often get angry and confrontational with their dogs. Confrontation, however, increases competition and causes the dog to guard the contested resource even more. Using physical punishment on a resource guarding dog is the exact opposite of what you need to do. Instead, make sure you understand the canine experience and work to instill more confidence in the dog so that he feels less threatened.
Don't show anger or frustration. This will make things worse with Newman. Be confident and serious, but not angry and confrontational.

Have a daily routine of activities for Newman and Kramer. Do they walk together? Do you play fetch together? Play the leader in a positive way and foster togetherness, confidence, and happiness in small ways. I have my boys perform their small repertoire of tricks for kibbles a few times a day. Little things give them a sense of accomplishment.

Welcome to Yorkie Talk.
