I take trazodone to help me sleep--50 mg--and it knocks me out cold (I weigh 150 lbs). I would be extremely leery about cutting up a pill that is intended for human consumption. I would definitely talk to the vet to get the correct dosage, and ask him if there are specially made low dose pills for dogs.
