I asked the trainer at the shelter where I volunteer about the Bark Genie, and whether it hurt them/their ears. She said the sound is akin, for humans, to someone scratching their fingernails on a chalkboard - it gets to some people, and others it doesn't. She said the same w/ the Genie...that it works great for some dogs, and not for others. She just said be careful / judicious about using it bc you don't want to eliminate "good" behavior, like play or anything. You also don't want to totally eliminate their voice
