I told her I would drive to pick it up. The pup is actually nine weeks old and I was kinda pushing to get it before the weather turned real cold. I will be more patient and wait for it to get older. This is NOT a "t-cup" Yorkie and that's one of the reasons I was attracted to it. I wanted a Yorkie who would be closer to 6 or 7 pounds and this one was advertised as charting that. All the pups I saw advertised in my neck of the woods were all for 2 - 4 pound Yorkies.
Just because the breeder you were looking at had her puppies around 6-7 pounds does NOT automatically mean that she is reputable.

If you were pushing to get the pup at 9 weeks old, than your breeder should have been firm and told you the risks of bringing home a puppy that far and that young. She also should have known about the rules for bringing a puppy from one country to another country--it's a simple Google search to find out the details.

I just really cannot comprehend how a breeder can let a puppy who is much too young travel to another country, over 10 hours of traveling, because her customer wanted to get the puppy before wintertime WITHOUT the breeder doing any research or customs checks and WITHOUT the breeder letting her customer know that her puppy was much too young. Even if the breeder was local, 9 weeks old is just outrageous. It doesn't matter if she didn't know about the new custom rules...common sense should tell her that it isn't normal for a 9 week old puppy to travel that long, that far, and into another country, no less!!!

I don't know if it's just extreme carelessness or she's just a bad breeder, but one thing is for sure and you need to CAREFULLY evaluate her and look for red flags. I am DEFINITELY suspicious.

How much are you paying for your pup? There are TONS of excellent breeders in Canada and there are EIGHT members from the YTCA that are residing in Tennessee that are probably going to be around the same price that this lady is charging you.
