I have always started mine on a high quality puppy food (no corn, no wheat, no soy, no byproducts). I put it in a food processor and turn it into a powder so it can be easily mix with warm water without having to wait for it to soften and dealing with the hotspots created using a microwave. The younger the puppy the more liquid and then I gradually add less and less water. I don't wean that early and let my moms nurse much later than most since I keep them until 11 or 12 weeks. After they are eating well, I also begin to leave out the same puppy food in dry kibble form and they naturally just move on to it. I believe keeping the same food throughout makes the transistion go smoothly and I don't have to deal with any digestive issues or pickiness.
