That's what I did for ZoE! I used a bookcase. I rearranged the shelves and put in a closet pole to hang things, and then bought baskets to store accessories. It works for me, as it also allowed me to get my tv off my dresser (I didn't like it blocking my dresser mirror).
If I had the room, I'd probably go with an armoire though. I don't like how dusty things get on open shelves (my heat/ac vent is right in front of the bookcase so maybe that's my problem). I just think things keep better in a closed cupboard.
