Most good breeders study the breed and learn to dock tails correctly. I would rather have a good knowledgeable breeder dock the tail than I would the average vet. Good breeders know exactly what length it should be for that particular breed and they also base it on body structure and size. I read some threads here where some excellent breeders describe the process, and held the tail in such a way that they knew where exactly to dock it, (something about pulling it down). Also using the right tools, they don't cut it off, but use some type of instrument that cuts the supply and it twists off with no blood involved. Unfortunately, most breeders aren't good breeders, they breed their pets and think reading a few sites on the internet means that they have studied, in this case they should always see a vet for the procedure. Macy's breeder may have done some damage when she docked the tail. I think it should stand up. |
