I'm sure it is a challenge to work with the dogs while you are recuperating from surgery. In addition to training, daily activity is important to burn off energy. Pent up energy and boredom is often what causes these little guys to do things they shouldn't.

A daily routine helps too. My boys know that they can expect a big outing in the evening, so they are relatively patient during the day. They also know they can expect little things during the day: brief play sessions, tricks for treats, a nap with grandpa, lunch, car rides for errands and so on.

If you and your husband can institute a routine of small things, whatever you are capable of, this might help.

For chewing, try to keep everything that might be attractive to chew out of reach. I trust my boys, but after a recent accident a member here experienced, I started unplugging my laptop computer that I used to leave within reach.
