All of my intact dogs don't hump anything usually, unless a female is in heat in the house. Then occasionally they will try to hump a toy or a leg, not to mention a female in heat if she was allowed to be in their company
As puppies I redirect humping behaviour with the usual training methods. Distraction with a toy, food treats, obedience commands, and good tiring out exercises.
Humping behaviour to humans or other animals can be a sign of dominance behaviour, or can simply be a result of excitation of hormones for what-ever reason. In any case your response is simple, re-direct to more acceptable behaviour.
