Default Poop frequency?

Okay so I finally brought home my baby girl, Ellie, this past Friday. When we picked her up the breeder told us "she had a hard poop" and as a result her rear end was a little pink so to check it twice a day. No big deal, I thought. We were sent home with the food she was being fed but she refused to eat the first night so I gave her Nutra Cal. In the middle of that night I woke up to her screaming while trying to have a bowel movement. I switched her to canned food and since then she hasn't had much trouble pooping, but she's only doing it once a day. Is that normal for a 10 week old puppy? She does scoot sometimes after pooping but she is acting normal otherwise. I feel like the painful poop was because of dehydration but now I wonder if the low frequency means constipation? I'd like to avoid a vet bill if possible. Help!!!
