A puppy should stay on the food they come with from the breeder for a month or two because everything will be so new to them and will stress them out. I would not touch merrick with a 10 foot pole because they have some serious quality control issues. There is nothing wrong with a dog eating grain and there are a lot of dogs who can not handle to high of a protein. Sweet potatoes are safe for dogs.
