If they do well and their paws aren't developing enough calluses, you might try putting on doggie booties to protect their feet. I gotten a water bottle that has a built in water "bowl" tray that you just flip out and it pours water into it, for any travels I might do. But yea, a sling or backpack type carrier would be good to have on hand. Snacks, as they might want to eat. Wouldn't hurt to have a small first aid kit just in case with some nutrical included in it.
