MY groomer who also worked as a profession handle r said to wash and dry well in morning and evening then use a small dab of neomycin ointment or petroleum jelly to train it to grow down. I wasn't quite comfortable with it so near the eyes but do use erythromycin ointment that I use at work when newborns are born. It keeps their hair out of the eyes and it's starting to grow away from the eyes.It's very safe and you don't have to continually trim around the eye s.
