Take a friend!!!
Take a box with some soft towels - some may get wet or soiled - and a friend that can hold and cuddle your pup while you drive. Your little guy may sleep well in the box most of the way home, but it certainly might love being held also.
You need to have water - some food (Gerber's Chicken Stix) should do for the ride home.
