You would keep him on it as long as it's working, that's what my Vet Derm has always said. When winter really hits though, you may want to take him off of it for a month and see if it was just the summer pollens that he's allergic to. If his symptoms continue in winter, then you have to think allergies to things like dust, mites, dander etc...and would want to use meds all yr round then.
