I had to put together enough extension cord to make it long enough to reach where I needed. But it did the job.

That's an idea I hadn't even thought of and will try that if there really is nothing easier but if possible, I'm really looking more for the kind of power-strip type battery-operated UPS as it wouldn't be possible for me to get a cord long enough to go from my truck in the garage all the way into the house and my computer without a lot of effort hunting for the cords, hooking them up, ?running the truck? - in the dark with only a flashlight or electric lantern. And I'd have to leave several doors ajar to run the cords through, the idea of which gives me the willies thinking of doing that for hours through the dark night.
I understand there are UPS devices that plug into the wife router/modem that provide uninterrupted power to it - but the trick is to select a reliably good one and not just whatever the Best Buy sales team is recommending this month. I've read some of them are just junk and fail to work properly.
