I know how to do it and yes when you hold my dogs head back/ straight up like that she can get panicky. It's also not a way to make it a pleasant experience so you risk making it hard to get them to come to you for medicine time. Especially with puppies it needs to be a pleasant experience or your setting your self up for trouble. I have to give Callie medicine twice a day and fighting with her or making her stressed about it is going to do nothing but make it unpleasant for everyone. I'm sure you will turn that around to my dog not being trained but she lets me do anything and everything to her, the vet techs even fight over oh gets her when we go to the vet because she is so well behaved.
