I would ask the vet for a recommendation for something for his tummy before rides. My Dad had to do this w/ their dog for about the 1st year or so, and then she was fine w/ riding and no longer needs anything. So, any med could very well just be temporary. Anti-nausea meds are very benign/easy meds - so I wouldn't hesitate to get started with this, esp bc you don't want your kiddo to develop more and more and more anxiety toward being in the car, ya know? The sooner you get him passed this, the better for long term.
