Congratulations on the new pup!
My kids were 3 & 5 years old when I got my first yorkie, Chelsea. I trained her with hand signals along with voice commands. My kids loved to have her do her tricks so they could give her a treat. Even when a toddlers voice isn't very clear, a hand signal is. Getting the kids involved in training helps them to bond with their puppy.
