Neutering will probably slow down the marking, and neutered dogs urine smell less pungent than unneutered dogs. Marking hasn't anything to do with the urge to urinate, it's governed by the hormone testosterone. If they are neutered early enough before testosterone is fully in their system, many male dogs will never mark. After the surgery, it will take around a month to see if less testosterone helps. The adrenal glands also make testosterone, and in some dogs even females, that's enough to make them mark. I definitely would correct him for humping because that is a dominate behavior and he should learn that humans are dominate and he is the submissive one. Some people will hate that idea, but your dog is less likely to ever bite anyone, if he's been trained that all humans are dominate. |
