I feed one of my pups mostly wet/canned food and her teeth are nice and white without any build-up. The other pup gets mostly kibble and has more gunk on his teeth that is still there even with brushing. I think it's largely genetic.

The best thing you can do is brush your pup's teeth regularly regardless of what type of food you feed. We also sometimes give edible chews like the Get Naked ones and the pups also chew on Nylabones...not sure how much those chews actually help keep teeth clean but the brushing will make a big difference.
