I used a plastic child's pen that I can set up and take down. It's convenient for the foster pups, but wouldn't be very convenient for frequent travel. When making a decision on which pen (so many choices out there!) I thought about travel, the possibility of a climber, jumper, and the possibility of having a chewer. The plastic one I bought seemed to fit the bill just fine.
