The way you said crate rest should be would be a sad life. My dog dearly enjoys going out to places even if it's sitting in a parking lot watching people so for my dog it would be sad for her to just stop going places. It really honestly no exaggeration would have killed her to stay in a crate for 11 weeks no sunshine and stuff.
