I did not see where you mentioned his age....has he had his series of puppy shots, making him at least 14 weeks old? Until he is completely vaccinated, I would not take him out into public....just like a new born infant, they are susceptable to many diseases and I worry about unvaccinated puppies mixing in with all the people, surfaces, etc in public places. I would suggest he stay at home, since that isnt an issue with you and work! Crate wise, I transport my babies in pet taxis in the car, and I have the wire crates, 28 x 42 for mine to be in for naps everyday, and overnight, and during storms or if I have to leave the house. My dogs were essentially raised in crates, so they love their crates, and at nap time and at bed time, they will go sit by their crate usually, wanting to go to bed.....When they go into their crates, I cover the crates with a sheet, like a bird cage, and they know it is time to be quiet and go to sleep, or just rest quietly, like during storms! Unfortunately, I was not able to take my dogs to work....hospital administration.....so mine had to get used to crates at home. They love their crates, feel very secure in them, and I send my new babies home crate trained to both types of crates!
