I have a 13 year old and we brought home a 10 month old boy. The older one is a male too. My older boy was not impressed that we brought a new one home and it took a few days for him to even warm up to the pup. It may be diff in your case for an older female. She may be more nurturing. It's been 8 months now and I do have to be careful not to exclusively make the older guy seem like the pack leader as he has a tendency to bully and my younger one is starting to stand his ground. So we have had a few minor fights. I do alternate with snacks and food who gets it first bc I feel as though it allows my older dominant boy to know that the younger one is on the same level. This is bc as I stated before my older boy is very dominant and he will tend to bully my younger one. He will randomly snatch toys away as well as treats and I don't leave them alone together. The younger one has an playpen and the older has run of the house if we leave. This is bc the youngster is smaller and I don't trust him alone as he may mark the house. Besides the small fights he has adapted well and although he doesn't care to be bothered by the youngster they do play quite well when he feels like it...I just think that as older dogs they don't want a change in their lives so that's why it takes some time to adjust. |
