We have 2 for Ginger, the house crate is 3 x 2 and the travel is 24 x 18. We used to keep the small one in the bedroom for night time so she was near us when little. Now we just have the big one in living room for when we go out and crate her and she sleeps there at night. We use the little one for long car trips and put a Pee Pad in it so she can go if needed. We only use the carriers for short trips like Vet or Groomer, the hard plastic one for now and the soft one that converts to car seat later when she matures/settles.

We are about ready to give her full privileges and only use the crate when she has to stay while we go somewhere and put a bed in the bedroom, she already has a bed in the living room and plays and sleeps there during day. She has full run of house when we are there and only chews her toys. For just a little over 6 months (27 weeks) she is amazingly mature and aware of house rules. She sometimes has a hang fire due to hair or string so we taught her to come over for butt check when she does a two. Sometimes I don't notice her going to the Piddle Pad and she'll come over for a check and stand there, moving with me if I move. If I don't get the message she'll bark, look in the direction of the pad, back at me, back and forth till I get it and check, lol.
