Lighthouse Hi.
I have looked at more info on this, and if you go to irobot.com, home support, there is more detail.
There is a VirtualWallLighthouse (VWLH) system that works with, I believe, some of the more expensive Roomba models.
The VWLH is an accessory unit that works in two modes. 1 . Is the VW mode, where the unit emits a light beam ( across a doorway for example) and the Roomba will not cross it. It is in effect a Virtual Wall. 2. Is the VWLH mode, where the VW light beam can be turned on or off according to the auto mode setting, acting as a gate that can allow or stop the Roomba passing through the VW. This can allow the Roomba to clean one room for example, and when done the VW 'gate' opens and then it can go to another room. The irobot web site has diagrams that make it easier to understand.
I only have the VW system that can stop the Roomba passing through an area, so have not used the other mode.
I do not really see a big advantage to the Mode 2 operation as I found that using the VW alone was good enough for my use. Honestly I have not used the VW very often, if I want to confine the Roomba I just close the door!
I am sorry if this sounds confusing but it is hard to explain without diagrams.
If you need to go into this more perhaps a vendor of the Roomba could demo it for you? Or you might just get the basic model that does not use these extra gadgets? LOL! |
