How long did it take for your resident pup to warm up? Hey all!
So I have an almost 6-year-old Yorkie named Diva - who has been the princess to all who've met her since I got her at 6 weeks (yes, I KNOW, she's the off-spring of my brother's super Yorkie - she is perfect and sometimes dreams come true).
I now have another Yorkie. Her name is Ruby, she was born in early July and she's a feisty little thing, but she knows I'm the Alpha.
My issue? Diva is NOT. A. FAN. She wants no parts of her AT. ALL. Ruby tries to engage her and Diva just takes off. When Ruby gets too close, she lets her know. She avoids her and anything scented like her like the plague.
I realize that dogs might not be the best of friends, but won't they at least tolerate each other at some point? Ruby is so excited in all her puppy glory, but Diva is a like a classist little snot. LOL.
I work to give both attention and we all give extra attention to Diva so she doesn't feel pushed aside. It breaks my heart when I'm working on training Ruby and I look up and see Diva staring at me like I've abandoned her.
It doesn't help that Ruby has taken to grabbing Diva's toys and chewies and me having to police all of that.
Thoughts/advice anyone?
