Nothing is the same as experiencing it. Yes you may have a little more understanding of it if a family member has had it but still is not the same. This person feels that taking meds is the easy way out and that is offensive, hurtful and just plane false information. Do you know how many people don't take medicine for mental illness when they need it because it is an actual chemical imbalance in the brain because they think it's the easy way out. It's false information and just pushes people farther away from getting help when uneducated people say that.
