It is pitiful that this poor little soul is suffering like this. Most vets make a surgical procedure out of docking tails, where as breeders know to use hemostats and clamp the tail, apply another set of hemostats right next to the first set, rapidly twist the second hemostat and that end of the tail comes off cleanly, seals the end so there is no bleeding, the end of the tail heals in a more pleasing "point" effect, and most importantly, the only pain that pup feels is when that first hemostat clamps down on that tail. There is no pain and no bleeding afterwards! Your vet has probably put sutures across the cut end of that tail....If I were you, I could not stand to hear that baby cry in pain.....I would take it into the ER and get it looked at by the vet, make sure the nerve end is not left exposed, and get it something for the pain...preferably Lidocaine topical or something like that, since the baby is only 5 days old.
