I have never ever heard of such stats (50/50). I believe you may have been dealing with a different condition. PDA surgery is highly successful as long as it is caught in time. If not, it progresses pretty rapidly and will kill a pup at a young age.

Whatever it was, that is great that Megan lived a long life with you!
