I've nearly abandoned temperature monitoring as confusing. It can go up and down for days, then suddenly bottom out, at least in my experience. I do monitor temp, but rely on that along with other signs. Most importantly, I stay very close to my girls when their whelping time is near, have all my emergency contacts on notice and the car outfitted with emergency supplies and ready to go in the event a hospital visit is needed.
Good luck. This is the most stressful part of being a breeder, IMO.

I have several ladies that never vary in their temps more than a degree, and even then, they go up and down.....I make sure my days are counted correctly and I isolate my females away from other dogs two weeks before she is due, and a week before she is due, she is in a whelping crate at the foot of my bed. I seldom take my eyes off her during that last week. I use ALL the signs and indicators that whelping is imminent, rather than just one or two.
