So, I took our Magnus to see the cardiologist today. He's been diagnosed with Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). If you aren't sure what it is - you can read about it in the link below. Because this vessel didn't close on its own, it needs to be done surgically. With surgery he can still live a very good and full life. Without the surgery, he's been given a year or so to live. Poor little guy. He's getting to be VERY expensive. So, while I'm pretty stressed about the cost - I'm happy to know that there is something that can be done and that we'll get the chance to have him around for many years! Surgery isn't scheduled yet, but she (the cardiologist) would like to do it within the next month or two. I say the sooner the better!

Awe..........Poor baby....PDA happens a lot with premature human babies also. You are doing the right thing by having the surgery and once it's done he should live a normal life. I understand why the vet wants to do it soon because she doesn't want to see it affecting the heart or lungs by stressing them out or enlarging the heart.
