So, I took our Magnus to see the cardiologist today. He's been diagnosed with Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). If you aren't sure what it is - you can read about it in the link below. Because this vessel didn't close on its own, it needs to be done surgically. With surgery he can still live a very good and full life. Without the surgery, he's been given a year or so to live. Poor little guy. He's getting to be VERY expensive. So, while I'm pretty stressed about the cost - I'm happy to know that there is something that can be done and that we'll get the chance to have him around for many years! Awe..........Poor baby....PDA happens a lot with premature human babies also. You are doing the right thing by having the surgery and once it's done he should live a normal life. I understand why the vet wants to do it soon because she doesn't want to see it affecting the heart or lungs by stressing them out or enlarging the heart.
