It sure is hard for those that love dogs as we do to get one and then not care for it, but sadly it happens all the time. In this case the woman might not have even owned the dog. One time I kept finding a pug loose on my street when I tracked down the owner I got an ear full of what a PITA the dog was and that he got it for his 10 yr old daughter who of course said she would take care of it but amazingly did not......... Years ago when I was in my 20's I rented a room in big house with about 6 other young people, one couple had a large Great Dane named Bentley, I was not that much of a dog person then, he was large, drooled, shed and we since we lived by the beach in CA he seemed to always have fleas which I am very allergic to. I have to say I did not like that dog very much. While I was never cruel to him I wanted nothing to do with Bentley. One weekend everyone in the home was away but me, the couple sort of expected that whoever was home took care of Bentley. We had a small yard with a gate with no lock, Bentely was out which was normal, someone must have opened the gate, I went out to get him, only to see him running down the street. I started yelling for him to come back but I still remember him looking back at me running as fast as he could. There was no way I could catch him so I drove around for a little while in my car, but that was it, I did not do much else to find him. This was long before Computers, Craig's List, Cell phones etc. Heck I did not even have a way of contacting the couple that owned him until they came back home. I share this with you because who knows what the relationship between the dog and the woman is, sad as it is she may not have cared for the dog that much.
