I can relate to the cat part, we have 3 cats, Gina tries to boss them around, and is really bad when she catches them doing something they aren't supposed to do. All animals are very sensitive to their surroundings and anything out of the norm will cause them to react differently to the situation. My suggestion if you have to do this again is to include her in a "make up" hug and kisses and tell her every things alright. Megan my last Yorkie, used to shake and shiver if my wife and I got into an argument, and always settled down after a hug and a few kisses between all three of us.
