I think saying most pit owners are good really depends on your location. Most of what our shelters have and most of what people are trying sell or give away here are Pits or pit mixes. The majority of dogs running around off leash here are pits occasionally maybe a lab or two but obviously that's not a good owner to let there dog do that and if they let them run the neighborhood I'm thinking they don't train them much. I also know a lot of irresponsible people who own Pit and Pit mixes and they should not own any kind of dog one thinks it's funny when the puppy chews all over her daughter a 2 year old and let's both her dogs run all over there neighborhood and another wants one simply to say I have a pit so shut up about them yet doesn't train the dog at all. I mentioned in another post we had a neighbor who had there pit grabbing on to a toy that was on a rope and then around a tree branch and when the dog would hold onto the toy the person would pull the rope up until none of the dogs paws were on the ground. There is also the fact that lots of pits are used for fighting so obviously good owners don't do that. Then there are also the people who want a Pitt or a Pitt mix just because of the stereotypes and because people go oh no not a Pitt. In my opinion I think most of the time a pit gets a bad rap from having a bad owner but sometimes there bred for fighting and aggressive. In my opinion people who say after a dog attack oh no I never saw that coming my dog is always so nice and loving are lying unless it was really extremely pushed so again it's the owners fault for putting them in that situation to do that because they had to have shown signs of aggression before.
