Happy Birthday to your handsome boy! I have a 15 pound 5 yr old female cat Roxy that is such a Diva. She grew up with my two dachshunds before they passed away, however she was alone with us for 3 years before we got Remy. My biggest fear was that she would not ever welcome him. In the beginning she was so over him and would go after him. I had to watch both of them like hawks. I must say that now she has realized that he is here to stay and she has finally come around. Remy is so mesmerized with her and constantly goes after her to play. She has now embraced his presence, tolerates him and lies on her back in the family room to play with him. Since she was little I have put the gel nail caps on her nails so she wouldn't scratch the mess out of my two boy dachshunds and the furniture. I still put the gel caps on her for safety because when she plays her claws come out. However, when I have to leave Remy at home I do not leave them together. More so, because Remy looks for her and doesn't leave her alone. I put Remy in his pen in another room and close the door. I still don't trust them alone together yet. Hopefully in the future it won't be an issue. I am very happy that she has come around and tolerates him jumping in her face, following her, giving her kisses and chasing & playing with her. One thing I did when I first got Remy was I let Roxy in the room where I have his pen while I was in there so she could get use to him. She would hiss & swat at the pen with him in it but eventually that stopped. It took some time to acclimate them but it worked. I still watch them very closely. Give it time and hopefully he will come around.
