Cali is 6 years old and I brush her once a day. Her coat is full length and just about never mats. She loves to be brushed so sometimes when she hears the music for the news she will bring me her brush because she know I will sit down for a while! I think the quality of the coat must be really important because I hear some people struggle with it. For us it is easier to just let it grow and brush once a day (sometimes every other day) than it is to run to the groomer all the time. Maybe your problem is puppy hair.
