From your other posts it sounds like you dog is still a puppy, the puppy coat tends to knot easily. I'd cut his hair shorter for now and try again when he's a bit older.
He may also have a cotton coat, if that's the case it'll be very hard to keep it long.
If he's only matting is specific spots, like under his arms, you can cut the hair without effecting the look of his coat.
When you brush him are you using a spray conditioner/detangler?
My dog has long hair, half way between her body and the floor, her coat is silky and I brush her every day or every other day. I wouldn't keep it long if I had to brush her more than once a day, neither of us would enjoy that. |
