The longer hair is definitely going to require more maintenance, especially with brushing several times a day. You might have to try a few conditioners for your dog, because what works great for one, might not work so great for your dogs needs. Make sure you use a really good detangler when you brush your dog- never brush him dry. It'll break his hair and dry/improperly moisturized hair will mat a lot easier.

Yeah, this is why I ended up cutting most of my dogs hair down. I leave her legs and head long, but face and body is short. Was too much work for me. But if you get a good routine going, it can be done! Good luck!
