I am a huge fan of Royal Canin...they have a Senior +8 Kibble and also a canned food for seniors. You can get it from Chewy.com ....I attach what they say about the formula....
"Royal Canin Mature 8+ Canned Dog Food, 5.8-oz, case of 24
No wonder lots of aging pups get bored with their food… the taste buds want somethin' new! Royal Canin Mature 8+ Canned Dog Food is designed to increase appetites in mature dogs, ensuring they get all of the essential nutrients needed during later life stages. The reduced-phosphorous formula makes Mature 8+ easier on overworked kidneys, and added EPA and DHA reduce inflammation and keep the brain sharp.
Key Benefits
•Highly palatable formula great for older dogs with decreased sense of smell
•Glucosamine and chondroitin protect overstressed joints
•Can be served on its own or mixed with dry dog food
•Made for small breeds under 22 pounds and over 8 years of age
I dont know if your pup can eat kibble with the jaw partially removed, but the canned is easily eaten and digested and tolerated by seniors. You can mix some of the canned with the senior kibble, to soften the kibble....you can soften it with a little warm water....or just the canned alone. I do not know too many people that have dogs that do not like Royal Canin.
I do want to thank you for providing this precious pup a loving and safe final chapter to a horrendous life....you will be richly rewarded in this life and afterwards....this is one of God's creatures that He has entrusted humans with his care.....and the life he has had up until now, is not in His favor. Thank you for giving him the care. love, and comfort he deserves. |
