Can you confine him to a to a tiled area and keep him off the rug until he learns?
Remember though he is still very young and will have accidents. I feel for you, this is a difficult period to deal with.
I have a little area blocked off in the entrance to our house. His bed, food, water and bathroom is there. I let him play in the living room. I'm usually good at catching him in time, but of course I made the mistake of thinking he'd be fine and left the living room. Should have put him in his spot. Also rethinking that area too. Hubby comes home... tracks small rocks and dirt in and then I'm forced to clean it again. I'm exhausted lol.
