I'm so sorry for your loss. I think it really depends on the dog more then the sex. I do notice girls seem to have more of an attitude then boys which I love but my girl is a cuddle bug. In the US the AKC (American kennel club) is the only reputable registry all others will let you register anything even a coffee table. You can check out the ytca.org for breeders. Reputable breeders will keep there puppies until 12 weeks, they don't breed mixes, they have a spay an neuter contract, they do health and genetic testing that can not just be done by a regular vet, there dogs are AKC, they know there lines pretty far back, they don't use the word teacup and they are happy to answer any questions they you have.
