Bless her little heart!! I have "pets" here and then I have my "breeders"....while they are all treated like my kids, all my "pets" are 4 pounds and under. My little Hailee, who was a precious, precious little girl, used to LOVE it when I have a momma and her babies in the whelping crate at the foot of my bed....Hailee would drag a blanket up under my whelping crate (mine are custom made and up waist high so I dont have to get on the floor!), and she would collect every stuffed toy that was small in size, and she would be momma to those toys, always trying to see into the whelping crate, desperately wanting to be a momma.....and she would go through just exactly what you were describing your baby girl was doing, including mourning over a lost "puppy" if I removed the toys she had collected to "nurse"....and Hailee was already spayed.....she always loved babies and always wanted to be a momma, which was out of the question because she was too small! I thought that MAY possibly be what was happening with you and your girl, but that was just a wild guess on my part so I didnt want to derail any other issue suggestions that may have been evident.
