When mine were spayed/neutered they gave them an injection of pain meds. That plus the anesthesia I was told to wait 24hrs. The next day they seamed fine but I gave the pain med anyway. The day after that I held off and they were fine.
If he seams in extreme pain I would put in a call to the vet.
