This is how I trim Sweezys nails too! He seems to be more relaxed this way and it's easier for me to get to his nails at the right angle. Start slow and give lots of praise after each nail that you are able to clip. Even if you only make it through one paw that is progress! If he starts getting irritated let him calm down and come back to it later.
