I have never heard of any stiches coming out from movement, more so with excessive licking and tugging by the pup. A head cone would be good so he doesn't extensively lick his stitches. Using bellybands would also work and for the calming not much you can do other than keep him away from anything that would excite him and be sure that you don't allow him to jump up on anything. Some people use pet carriers to carry their pups around to prevent them from moving around too much.


When my pups got theirs done they spent a lot of time in the cage when I was not able to be by their side to supervise their behavior. They also all wore the belly bands to prevent licking or pulling.
